Speed Painting Alien Bioforms — Table-Ready in an Evening
Share
Not every model needs to be a competition masterpiece. Sometimes you need a full brood on the table by Friday night — and with the right approach, VoidHive Forge models respond brilliantly to speed painting techniques without sacrificing the dark, premium aesthetic the range is known for.
The Core Method: Contrast & Drybrush
The secret to fast, effective results on organic bioforms is working with the sculpt rather than against it. Deep recesses, layered chitin plates, and pronounced muscle definition are all built into every VoidHive Forge cast — meaning a single well-chosen contrast paint does most of the heavy lifting for you.
- Prime in grey — a mid-tone grey primer gives contrast paints the neutral base they need to flow and pool correctly.
- Apply a dark contrast paint — Skeleton Horde, Basilicanum Grey, or Wyldwood all work beautifully over grey resin.
- Drybrush the raised surfaces — Administratum Grey or Praxeti White picks out chitin edges and muscle highlights instantly.
- Pick out the details — claws, teeth, and eye sockets in a single accent colour. Nihilakh Oxide for a bioluminescent effect.
- Base and done — textured paste, drybrush, and a tuft finishes the scenic base in minutes.
Realistic Time Estimates
- 120mm model — 45–60 minutes including drying time
- 160mm model — 60–90 minutes
- 200mm centrepiece — 2–3 hours for a solid tabletop standard
Speed painting isn’t cutting corners — it’s smart painting. Save your display hours for the centrepieces that deserve them.
