VoidHive Codex — Arc 4, Chapter 20: The Language

[RESEARCH LOG — LT. SERA VANCE — DAY 4, ARCHITECT PROJECT]

They don't speak in words. I knew this. The briefings said distributed signal, resonance communication, non-linear information transfer. What the briefings didn't say was that it feels like remembering something you never knew.

On Day 3, one of the Architects — I've started thinking of it as Lumen, for the quality of light it carries — approached my space and extended what I can only describe as an invitation. A tendril of bioluminescent filament, no thicker than a finger, hovering at the threshold.

I touched it.

For approximately four seconds — the station's log confirms this, though it felt like an hour — I understood everything it was trying to tell me. Not in words. In weight. In the specific gravity of a civilisation that has been doing this for longer than our sun has existed.

Then it withdrew, and I was left with fragments. Impressions. The sense of a vast library with most of the lights off.

I've been writing ever since. I'm afraid of forgetting.
