BIOFORM PROFILE
Shadefang does not pursue. It forecloses. Where the other three members of the Veiled Hunt create pressure and movement, Shadefang reads the geometry of the engagement and positions itself at the point the quarry will reach — not where it is, but where it will be forced to go. Its role is to ensure that every escape route the target identifies leads somewhere the Hunt has already been.
HUNT FUNCTION
Shadefang operates at the perimeter of the engagement, moving in response to the target rather than toward it. As Longfang opens the hunt and Ghostclaw closes the interior distance, Shadefang seals the exits — appearing at the precise moment the quarry commits to a direction, cutting off retreat with a calm that field observers have described as deeply unsettling.
ADAPTATIONS
Shadefang’s bio-rifle is more tightly integrated with its nervous system than any other member of the pack — tracking through instinct rather than active targeting. Razor-sharp talons on both forelimbs are capable of penetrating light armour plating. Its sensory anatomy is oriented forward and laterally, giving it an unusually wide field of awareness without requiring head movement. It advances without sound.
OBSERVED BEHAVIOUR
Shadefang has never been recorded making an unnecessary movement. Every step, every repositioning, every moment of stillness appears to serve a specific function within the Hunt’s larger pattern. Researchers studying recovered footage have noted that its behaviour only becomes fully legible in retrospect — when the complete sequence of the engagement can be reviewed and Shadefang’s role within it understood.
It was never chasing you. It was waiting for you to arrive.
